Material analysis

MasterFormat Number: 06 05 50

Palm plywood is made from plantation-grown coconut palm trees that are past their fruit bearing years. The 100% coconut palm sheets come in either flat-grain or edge-grain and range from dark to medium-red mahogany in color. Palm plywood is unique to the panel industry, both in its unconventional construction and the fact that it is made from reclaimed palms. It can be used in both commercial and residential environments for fixtures, cabinetry and furniture applications. It can be cut and laminated using conventional equipment and adhesives, and it will sand and finish like other panel products. Palm panels are formaldehyde-free.

Manufacturing process and assembly

  • Palm plywood is made from 100% reclaimed plantation-grown coconut palms past their fruit-bearing years.
  • High quality palm wood plywood can be produced from the rich heartwood of the coconut tree. The tree’s culm (the hardest portion) is shredded into long strips and compressed into large recomposed logs of palm wood. The logs are then dried for a period of two weeks. When ready, they are cut to length and milled into raw plywood panels. This process is especially greener than most because we are able to use a larger percentage of the available raw material.
