Material properties
Primary structural use
- Non structural
- May be back or face fastened to pre-fabricated steel or wood frame walls
Material performance
- high impact resistant surface
- low moisture absorption
- low maintenance in exterior & interior uses
- test prove life expectancy over 30 years
- apparent porosity of 1%, resistant mold growth and immune to insects
- very resistant to weather extremes and pollution
- test results confirm natural exposure to weather does not change the durability or performance of material
- will not delaminate or decay
Dimensional and opening restriction
- panel thickness = 5/16", weighing 3.2lbs/SF
- panel thickness = 7/16", weighing 4.5lbs/SF
- stock size = 47 3/4" x 95 3/4" or 47 3/4" x 119 3/4"
Acoustic property
- Little to no acoustical dampening
Manufacturing process and assembly
- Natural slate and stone fibers are mixed together into resin binder along with chopped reinforced fiberglass strands, to form a composite sheet
- Panels are fabricated in the factory before being sent out:
1. they are cut into specialty or standard sized sheets 2. pre-drilled for fastener holes 3. cut into specialty shapes 4. edges are polished, beveled or mitered 5. insulation materials are bonded to the panels
Environment and Life Safety
Environmental impact
Petrarch products may receive the following credits from the LEED rating system: MR Credit 2.1 and 2.2: Construction Waste Management
Minimum packaging primarily recycled cardboard and wood Factory cut panels, reduces leftover waste at installation site
MR Credit 3.1 and 3.2: Materials Reuse: 5% or 10%
Because of the long life of the product may be transferred and reused at
other sites
May also be cut on-site and reused in a new size
EQ Credit 3.1 and 3.2: Construction IAQ Plans
The panels do not need to be finished on the job site (eg primed or painted)
EQ Credit 4.1: Low-Emitting Materials, Adhesives and Solvents
VOC content 0 g/l at installation site. VOC content 6% at manufacture site.
EQ Credit 11: Low Impact Cleaning and Maintenance Equipment Policy (LEED for schools)
May be cleaned with soap and water. Low maintenance material.
Flammability rating
- Class A fire rating
- ASTM E84-81 Tunnel Test result show flame spread of 15 and
fuel contribution of 0.
