Sensitile
- Main article: Sensitile
Emerging uses / trends
Sensitile® products were born from the need to reconcile the relationship between ourselves and our environment. Sensitile’s® materials quietly interact with ambient light and shadow creating an aesthetically pleasing solution to our utilitarian needs. Using durable acrylics and micro-concrete, Sensitile® provides a varied line of tiles and panels that can be used for items as small as POP displays to exterior facades and flooring. The materials are durable, temperature resistant and energy efficient.
Material performance
- Scintilla is made of PMMA (acrylic) which is highly durable and naturally resists abrasion. It successfully resists stains, scratching and general wear. It will not “yellow” in direct sunlight or with intense UV exposure.
- Tensile strength (parallel to grain): 10,000 psi
- Compressive strength (edge to edge): 18,000 psi
- Tensile Strength: 1,200 psi
- Compressive Strength: 4,400 psi
Environmental impact
- Currently, Sensitile is not able to use recycled materials in their products. However, Sensitile is one of the few products on the market that is interactive and dynamic without using a power source.
Recycling
- The cement-based Terrazzo line can be recycled through traditional cement recyclers despite having a minimal plastic content (5% or less). The Scintilla®/Jali® products can be recycled either by returning the product to Sensitile® for either resale/recycle or directly through a plastic recycler. In some instances, Sensitile® installations can be dismounted and “portable”.
- Due primarily to maintaining the integrity of our products, at the present time Sensitile’s standard product lines do not incorporate any recycled materials. However, we do offer a PETG cladding option for Scintilla and Jali which can be 100% recycled. Our product lines and processes are constantly evolving which leaves open the opportunity to incorporate recyclables in the future.
